Cisse shoots down Chelsea
Chelsea lost for the first time this season, as Newcastle Utd gave a superb performance to beat the Premier League leaders 2-1 at St. James's Park. There are now only 3 points between Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the table, after City beat Everton 1-0. Cisse came off the subsitutes bench in the 53rd minute, and within 5 minutes he had put the hosts ahead. After 78 minutes, Newcastle extended their lead, when Cisse scored a second after a quick counter-attack. Newcastle defender, Steven Taylor, got a red card and Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea, but Newcastle held on for a famous win. Jose Mourinho has now played 5 Premier League matches at St. James's Park and never won!

What do we know about Papiss Demba Cissé?
Papiss Cissé was born in Dakar, Senegal in 1985. Cissé played in three different countries and for five different clubs before he arrived in England to play for Newcastle United.

In 2010/2011, Cissé scored 22 goals in his first full season at Freiburg – a club record and the record for an African player in one Bundesliga season. He was transferred to Newcastle United in January 2012. On his debut, Cissé came on as substitute and scored the winning goal against Aston Villa. In May, he scored both goals in a 2-0 win at Chelsea, the second was voted Goal of the Season by the BBC. Cissé scored an amazing 13 Premier League goals in only 14 appearances for Newcastle in 2011/2012. After returning from a long injury, Cisse has scored 7 Premier League goals in only 9 games at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, with most of his appearances coming from the subsitutes bench.
Why is his number 9 shirt so important?
When Cissé joined Newcastle, he was given a special shirt number. Manager Alan Pardew called it “One of the iconic numbers in world football – the number nine of Newcastle.” Cissé said, “I know the huge importance of the number nine shirt. I will treat it with respect and do my very best in this shirt.” Legendary Newcastle strikers who have worn number nine in the past include: Jackie Milburn (1943-57), Malcolm McDonald (1971-76), Andy Cole (1993-95) and Alan Shearer (1996-2006).
Does Cissé have strong beliefs?
Papiss Cissé is a practising Muslim and Newcastle Utd have created a prayer room at St.James's Park, which can be used by players of all faiths. There are a number of Muslims at Newcastle United, including: Cissé, Cheick Tioté and Moussa Sissoko. There was controversy at Newcastle United at the end of the 2012-13 season when the club changed shirt sponsors. The new sponsors are a company that lends money.
In Islamic Law, a Muslim must not profit from lending money or receiving money from another person.Cissé, refused to wear the shirt because of his beliefs.There were discussions with the club and eventually Cissé said: “After a lot of thought and reflection, I have made the decision to follow my teammates and wear the shirt.”

At the end of the player's tunnel at St. James' Park there is a sign that reads, 'Howay the Lads' which means, 'Come on Boys!'

Thanks for the comment. I think that in general use, any kind of communication with God is described as praying in English. There may be more specific terms used within religious communities for thanksgiving. I might be wrong so I will change the comment on the photo. It might be better to say that he is worshipping God, but the distinction between worship and prayer in general English is not very clear.

A rather accurate read, although I have to point out, Newcastle do have more trophies than Sunderland. A European trophy tops it, having 12 or 13 major trophies I think it is I think, to Sunderlands 8?
That aside, it is fascinating learning about 'previous lives' so to speak. Who would have thought a prem player used to be an ambulance driver
