You are the coach!
You are the coach!
Welcome to Lesson 6 in Activity Week - Health & Fitness.
The content of this lesson is linked to the podcast you listened to in lesson three and the language you learned in lessons four and five:
Learning Vocabulary - How fit are you?
In lesson four, Rich spoke about fitness and in lesson five, Jack spoke about diet and the lessons introduced lots of words and phrases about these topics. This task is your chance to use the language you have learned to give your opinion about the following situation:
Task
What do I need to do?
In this discussion task, we would like you to do three things:
- Read the article and look at the words in red. Think about what these words mean.
- Do the quiz at the end of the article. This quiz checks your understanding of the words in red in the article.
- Discuss the situation and say what the coach should do and what the players should do.
The Situation
You are the coach!
It's the start of pre-season training and after some light training, you can see that some of your players have come back out of shape. They are overweight and unfit! You have one month until the start of the season. They need to start eating in the right way and they need to build their fitness. You need to design a training plan for these players.
Comment
What would you do?
Think about the situation in this article. What kind of diet would you choose for the players?
What type of fitness plan would you have for the players?
Explain your reasons and try to use some of the language you have learned during this activity week.
Write your answers in the comments section below.

1. I would choose a diet for soccer players that fits carbohydrates and unsaturated fats to provide the necessary energy they need in the field; In addition to the balanced consumption of protein in all meals and snacks, taking into account the training sessions.
2. You could do, mainly, physical training sessions and practice sequences preferably outdoors, because I consider that the connection with the environment and nature stimulates and motivates you more.
3.To be fit you should not always always do a great workout in the gym and pump iron, or cut out meals to lose a bit of weight. Everything with a good balance, and especially with discipline and determination, can be achieved.

The best way to get players in shape is to impose a good diet, not skip any food, have foods full of vitamins and get away from fats and foods full of salt and sugar, which are not good for good health and good physical condition. .
It would also be perfect to do a good exercise every day, to complement the diet, always doing it correctly, do not forget to warm up and stretch.

It would be a diet of a lot of fruit and vegetables to lose weight, but since the body also needs protein for their physical well-being, then a little protein for the body in the day, do not skip any meal of the day since in this state all are very important, the exercise would be a lot of gym and workouts to improve the physical condition and improve in the field.
I choose this diet and these exercises because the body must be well in its physical state and to play well in the field.

As a coach I would ensure that players lose weight before the season starts. I'll make sure players eat food which has less sugar and fats.

Well, I think if they have to get in shape once again, they need some time, you can't just cut out all the sugar and fat right away, they have to get used to it.
I would start by doing a warm-up, then going with more challenging exercises and pumping some iron.
As for the food, I would ask them to start eating more portions of fruit and vegetable, while slowly cutting out full-fat milk, fizzy drinks, and sugary food.
At the end, they would have lose some weight and have better physique.

For this situation you need a strict diet free of fat, sugar and salt. Avoid high-calorie foods and maintain a daily routine of cardio and physical exercise. with this it is sought that the player feels lighter when losing weight, remembering not to cut with the diet.

It is an unusual situation, due to the determination of each player to stay in shape. A diet free of trans fat, sugar, low salt and calories; Rich in proteins, vitamins and water.
In the month, the most time is used in three types of training per day: medium, high and low performance. a routine of physical exercise in the gym for 60 and 90 minutes every other day. It is necessary not to cut with the diet of each Player.

Hello British Council Community I'm Sofia
I have really enjoyed the course and it has been very fun
Here I leave my comment
What type of diet would you choose for the players?
Highlight that they are fed with carbohydrates and proteins to lose weight with a very healthy breakfast such as whole grains or oats and cut the excess sugar definitely and put surveillance in the fridge
What kind of fitness plan would you have for the players?
I would do strong exercises but well done to avoid injuries but I would make extensive training days to become superfit people and pump iron with a good diet and thus improve their physique.
Goodbye and thank you for your always interesting and productive courses.
I think that thanks to the course I will improve my way of taking care of my health and good I will eat less bread but the coffee if it stays hahaha
Greetings to Rich and Jack that I feel as if I knew them and they have accompanied us after the course of the course and thanks
Bye
