Writing: Organising ideas

Writing: Organising ideas

After your students have completed their brainstorm, you can get them to organise their ideas.

There are different ways to do this, but the easiest is to get them to copy their ideas under a selection of headings or topics. If you give students enough support at this stage, the writing will be a lot easier as students will be able to focus on their writing and not the topic.

In the first part of these writing activities, your students brainstormed the topic: 'What I've learnt from football'

In this part, they are going to organise their ideas to make the topic easier to write about.

Procedure

Ask your students to reflect on the results of their brainstorms. Tell them to add their ideas to the following table and ask them to fill in as many extra details as they can,

Where
When
Who
What
Why
Your feelings
Result

Over to you: Tell us what you think

What do you think of this activity?
Would it work with your students?
Can you think of a way to use it differently or make it better?

This would be perfect seeing I have already taught them the "5 w" questions....Your feelings and result is an interesting take to the writing...Would this work for 9 year olds though? Anybody used it for that age group?

The table would make things simpler so that for where it could have an answer like at the school field and when as on the 4th Friday of June 2016.
