Challenging has a number of different meanings. As an adjective, it means something that is difficult to do. For example; it's a challenging task for new Premier League teams to avoid relegation. In football, a challenge can also be a synonym for tackle. For example; a 50/50 challenge is a phrase you often hear. It means that two players have an equal chance of winning the ball.
