The Good Supporter
The Good Supporter
This is a speaking activity which is designed to get students to think about what makes an effective language learner and what they could do to be more effective in their own studies.
Procedure
Ask the students which football team they support. Get a few suggestions.
Now put the students into small groups or pairs and ask them to think about a good team supporter and what a good supporter does. Try to get them to think of up to 10 things.
Once the students have had time to do this, get some from each group to swap around and compare the things they thought of with students from other groups.
Once they have had time to compare, ask them to think about what makes a good English students and see if they can find similarities between good supporters and good students.
Example:
Good Supporter | Good Student |
---|---|
goes to watch all the games | goes to all the classes |
Once the students have finished comparing the two, ask them to think about which they are better at, being a student or being a supporter.
Ask the students if they can think of any ways they can be a better student.
Get a few examples and share them with the class.
Over to you: Tell us what you think
What do you think of this activity?
Would it work with your students?
Can you think of a way to use it differently or make it better?
