Euro 2016: Eden Hazard
Euro 2016: Eden Hazard
Form is temporary but class is permanent!
Chelsea's Eden Hazard put on a dazzling display at Euro 2016 as Belgium crushed Hungary 4-0 to march on to the quarter-finals. Belgium will now play Wales. Belgium were the stronger team despite a brave performance from Hungary, who probably deserved a goal or two for the part they played in an entertaining match. Belgium dominated the first-half and it was no surprise when Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne crossed for Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld to head home the opener. It was a surprise, however, that it took until the 78th minute for Belgium to get their second. It was Hazard down the left who put the ball on a plate for the substitute, Batshuayi, who scored easily. Hazard then scored himself with a wonderful solo goal. He went past two defenders before hitting a low shot from outside the box that beat the goalkeeper. Carrasco completed the scoring in injury time with another assist from De Bruyne. Belgium and Hazard have finally found their best form. Can they go all the way to the final?
"It was a great game. We really deserved the victory. We could have scored more, but the keeper made some great stops. Not that we'll sulk about that!" Eden Hazard.
What have been Hazard's best Premier League moments?
Belgium players run after Hazard after his goal against Hungary.
Chelsea's Eden Hazard has been one of the best players in the Premier League in recent seasons. Here are some of his personal highlights:
- 4th June 2012: Hazard signs for Chelsea from Lille. The transfer fee was reported to be £32 million.
- 15th May 2013: Chelsea win the Europa League but Hazard misses the final due to injury.
- October 2013: Nominated for the prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or Award.
- 8th February 2014: Scores his first Premier League hat-trick.
- 27th April 2014: Named PFA Young Player of the Year.
- 26th April 2015: Named PFA Player of the Year.
- 2nd May 2015: Scores the goal to give Chelsea their first Premier League title since 2010.
- 2nd May 2016: Scores the equaliser against Tottenham which gives Leicester City their first-ever Premier League title.
What do we know about Eden Hazard?
Hazard lost form last season but he's back to his best for Belgium.
Eden Hazard was born on 7 January 1991 in La Louvière, which is a small town in Belgium. It's not a huge surprise that Hazard became a footballer, both of his parents were footballers. Eden's father, Thierry, played in the Belgian second division and his mother, Carine, played in the top division of women's football in Belgium. Eden is the oldest of four brothers and all three of his brothers are footballers, one of them, Thorgan, also played for Chelsea but he now plays for Borussia Monchengaldbach in Germany. Hazard moved to France in 2005, when he was only 14, to sign for Lille, which means he has never played professional football in Belgium. After a few seasons in Lille's youth teams, Hazard joined the first team and was really successful. In 2008/09 and 2009/10, Hazard was named Young Player of the Year. He was the first player from outside of France to win this award. In 2010/11, things got even better for Hazard, when he was named French Player of the Year and helped Lille to win a league and cup double. It was the first time Lille had won either the cup or league since the 1950s. After being named French Player of the Year for the second time in 2011/12, Hazard made a multi-million pound move to Chelsea.
"We could have a great five-a-side team, my dad still plays and my mum could be manager!" Eden Hazard

I'm not sure that 4. question in quiz section is correct?- Who has played in Belgium top division?
I think that here should stay:
Who played in Belgium top division? (his mother retired for playing football and it's not possible that she will appear again in the boots on the football pitch).

Hi Rema
Good to hear from you. The present perfect can be tricky because it has a number of different uses. One use is to talk about something that you started in the past and still do now. An example sentence could be:
Eden's mum, like you say, has finished her career, so we could use the past simple:
However, we also use the present perfect to describe life experiences, so we often say sentence like these:
Therefore, we can also say:
Hope that helps.

In my opinion the expression 'to be put on a plate' explains the situation when one player provides his teammate so big opportunity for scoring, almost impossible to miss.
I explained it on one football example, but it can be implemented on different spheres of life.

Payet and Bonnuci deserve to be best players. Ibrahimovitch was aweful both he and his team.
Payet free-kick was a dazzling goal.

Hi Aragorn1986
I think you could be right but I have a feeling that the Italians might beat Germany. They don't have any big stars (apart from Buffon in goal) but Antonio Conte (the new Chelsea manager) has got them working really well as a unit. They played really well when they beat Belgium and Spain. What do you think?

Well, yes, it's always hard to predict the score when Italy is playing. It happened so many times that they managed to win big matches even if they didn't have all stars in the squad. But they are playing as a team and they know it. Conte is good manager and he will definitely do his job well but I think that Germans still remember when they lost the semi-final at home and they'll give their best to make one more step on this tournament. It will be a euro thriller match.
