Discussion - Surprises
On the course this week, you have been learning about Leicester City's Jamie Vardy. The Leicester striker was working in a factory a few years ago and nobody expected him to be a Premier League player.
Jamie Vardy has surprised everybody by becoming a top football later in his career. Another example of this was Ian Wright, who didn't play in the Premier League until he was 26 years old, but became Arsenal's all-time top scorer! However, it's not only in football where people surprise others or overcome obstacles in their life to achieve great things.
Discuss
Can you think of any other footballers who began their football career at a low level but became much better later in life?
Why do you think that some footballers are not noticed early in their careers? Is it because they are too small like Jamie Vardy was?
Do you know anyone who has had to overcome obstacles in their life to achieve their dreams?
How would you describe a person who fights to achieve their goals and dreams in life?
Do you have any goals or dreams? What are they?

- Aritz Aduriz ,player Athletic Bilbao, is 35 years old but now he play better than when he was young.
- There are a lot of players that are very good but they don't became famous by they play in small leagues or another countries where the football isn't know or injuries when are youngs.
- The players that born in Africa I imagine that they have had a easy life and have had hard work to achieve their dreams
- They are people fearless, keen, and ambitious.
- When I was young I'd want to became professional footballer.

I know many people who had to fight to survive and feed their family. They are real heroes! You don't need to be famous to be that type of person.

In football it is like in the real life. Yon certainly need some luck. It happens that sometimes player doesn't use his first chance and apparantly never gets his 2nd chance to play.

Ian Wright is good example of a late bloomer. After failed trials with Sothend he tried to play even for Greenwich Borough. At the age of 28 he signed for Arsenal. That's where his dreams came true.

A person who fights to achieve his goals and dreams in life is someone who is ambitious, audacious, always does'nt give up when he intercepted by some obstacles, always thinks about solution, not problems, has stamina to continue, and it's the full part of glass which interested him.

Some footballers are not noticed early in their careers. May be because they are too small like Jamie Vardy was or their playing is not so good. Jamie has said that he found it difficult to adapt to the better quality of football in the Premier League.

My family remembers that nights when he plays, it's day in USA, but late night here in Arabic world. We hadn't a TV, so my family went to my aunt house to watch him boxing, and it's winter, so they brought with them some blankets. They prepared themselves for that lovely short moments, wich finished very quickly. Great memories with the greatest.

I would talk about Muhammad Ali Clay, Peace Upon His Soul. He was a legend, the greatest, a man of principles and convictions, He was and still our hero, we Muslims. We love him a lot, especially when he required that his star must be put on wall not on floor, He and all of us couldn't support that our beloved messanger be stepped by foot.

The more surprising player I know was the 1965 RCKouba striker named Haddadi who played in the official team from 1965 to 1968 when he came from Bouira without any reputation. As soon as he began with his red hair, he became the first striker in Algeria and lead his team with Zitouni Mustapha as a manager and central back to 1966 Final Cup.
One of my friends when we were in middle classes was very found of cinema. He was always dreaming to be a director. He struggled during these years to achieve seeing his movie classicals using all his money paying for Cinematheque spectacles. He left his High Education in letters to make an apprenticeship with the Algerian TV. He fighted and obtained a bourse to study cinema in Moscou for 6 years. All the dreams he was always talking about were on. He overcame a lot of obstacles doing TV films and movies in the bureaucratic environment with a unique political party. The civil war in 1990's made him leave the RTA and his country to make a live in Canada very far from here and perhaps from his dreams.

My dad had to overcome a lot of obstacles to achieve his dream of owning a land and putting up a house. He has had to pay our fees; four of us alongside paying for the land and putting up the building. It got challenging sometimes that he had to put on hold the building project but in all he has completed the building and now concentrating on our education. According to him his greatest dream is to get his children to the university and he has done that with myself.

I think some footballers are not noticed early in their careers because they are either too small or the structures are just not favourable for them to get noticed like in most African countries,.
