Patty from Bolivia
Patty from Bolivia
Hi everyone, my name is Patricia. I'm Bolivian but have lived in Mexico since 2005. My husband is Mexican, and we have two beautiful children. Our older son is 10 years old and his name is Leonardo. Our younger son is almost 2 years old and his name is Thiago.
My Football Team
My heart is with the football team Bolívar, from La Paz, Bolivia. Their traditional rival is The Strongest, also from La Paz. Bolívar have played 33 times in the Copa Libertadores de América; their best performance was in 2014 when they were a semifinalist. Vladimir Soria and Julio César Baldivieso are Bolívar's best players and both helped Bolivia qualify for the World Cup in 1994.
Travelling around Bolivia
I have 2 brothers. One lives in Culiacán, Mexico, and the other lives in Bolivia. My younger brother lives in Yungas, a place well-known for its highway called "The Highway of Death". It is called that because of its large ravines and very thin highway. It was built around the 1930s by Paraguayan prisoners captured in the Chaco War. More than 200 accidents and 100 deaths are recorded on this highway every year. In 1995, the BID named it the most dangerous road in the world. The lane is only 3 meters wide and has 3,600 meters of unevenness. Heavy trucks with fruit pass down this road on their way to La Paz. Starting in the 1990s, tourists have traveled this road on bicycles due to the steep descent and the wonder of its landscapes.
A Place to Visit
The best part of Bolivia is the Uyuni Salt Flat. It's very cold and feels like walking in the clouds. The Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia has an area of 10,582 square kilometres, making it the largest salt desert in the world. The ground is covered with polygonal salt patterns. During the rainy season, a thin layer of water transforms the floor into a beautiful reflection of the sky. The flat is used to extract salt and lithium, an element used in the batteries of computers, smartphones and electric cars. It has the world's first salt hotel and is visited by tourists on the roads. I miss my country, but I am happy in Mexico.
Bolivia in the Premier League
There have been many talented Bolivian footballers over the years. This that move abroad tend to go to Mexico or South American countries and few have moved to Europe. Those that have such as Erwin Sanchez, the first Bolivian player to move to Europe, have mainly gone to Portugal or Spain. However, two Bolivians have played Premier League football. Jaime Moreno was the first when he signed for Middlesbrough in 1995 and the second was Marcelo Moreno who played for Wigan Athletic in 2009/10 and is seen as one of the greatest Bolivian strikers of all-time.
