Team of the Season 2016/17
Team of the Season 2016/17
Who is in our Premier League Team of the Season?
We have chosen the eleven players that we believe have performed the best this season. There have been many stand out performers, but we believe that these are the players that have consistently played well throughout the season. Have a read and then let us know if you agree with our choices.
Goalkeepers
The obvious choice would be Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper won the Premier League's Golden Glove award for keeping sixteen clean sheets this season. But, with the magnificent Chelsea defence in front of him, Courtois only needed to make 68 saves this season. The most saves were made by Burnley's Tom Heaton (141) and Sunderland's Jordan Pickford (135). Heaton's performances won him the Player of the Year award at Burnley and his saves are one of the reasons why Burnley will be in the Premier League again this season. Heaton probably also made the save of the season at Old Trafford when he saved a powerful short range volley from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He made 11 saves in that match to earn Burnley a point. Pickford was one of the few highlights of Sunderland's season and the 23-year-old surely has a bright future in front of him. Another goalkeeper who had a fine season was Hugo Lloris at Tottenham. The French goalkeeper made 78 saves as Spurs conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season.
Our choice of goalkeeper of the season is...
Defenders
Chelsea's defence was phenomenal this season. Antonio Conte's decision to bring David Luiz back to the club and to play with three centre-backs worked wonderfully well. Luiz no longer makes as many mistakes and is an even better defender than he was in his first stay at Chelsea. Gary Cahill, Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso have also been excellent but Cesar Azpiliceuta from Spain has stood out. Azpiliceuta played every Premier League match this season, which is very rare in these days of squad rotation and frequently resting players. At Tottenham, Kyle Walker and Toby Alderweireld have been excellent. Spurs fans will be hoping that both stay at the club this summer. Manchester Utd's Eric Bailly has also been excellent for Manchester Utd despite some injury problems. The players that make our team of the season are David Luiz, Cesar Azpilceuta and Toby Alderweireld.
Midfielders
N'Golo Kante won the PFA Player of the Year award and is a Premier League winner for the second year in a row following his success at Leicester last year. Kante's teammates, Eden Hazard, who was back to his best this season, and Cesc Fabregas are also strong contenders for our team of the season. Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho had a strong season and helped the Reds reach the Champions League for the first time in three seasons. Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne finished with 17 assists for the season, more than any other player in the Premier League. Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson was involved in over half of Swansea's Premier League goals to help them stay up. Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez was brilliant at times and helped Arsenal win the FA Cup. Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son were also superb as Tottenham's creative trio. Our choices are Kante, Hazard, Coutinho, Sigurdsson and Sanchez.
Strikers
There have been plenty of strikers hitting the target this season. Harry Kane, once again, finished the season with the Premier League's Golden Boot Award. The Tottenham striker scored 29 Premier League goals despite being injured for about two months of the season. Kane scored seven goals in his final two matches of the season and scored four Premier League hat-tricks this season. Only Alan Shearer (the Premier League's all-time top scorer) has scored more Premier League hat-tricks in one season. In fact, in 2017, there have been six Premier League hat-tricks and Harry Kane has scored four of them! Everton's Romelu Lukaku scored one of those other two hat-tricks. The Belgian striker also had a great season. He was leading the race for the Golden Boot for much of the season and finished second with 25 Premier League goals. Diego Costa at Chelsea had a splendid season and Zlatan Ibrahimovic showed that he still has a lot to offer Manchester Utd at 35 years of age. However, we are going to go with Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku as our two strikers.
Who will manage the Premier Skills English team?
Mauricio Pochettino was superb at Tottenham, his team scored the most, conceded the fewest and finished as the team with the biggest goal difference (+60) never to win the Premier League. Sean Dyche at Burnley did a tremendous job to keep the club in the Premier League as did Sam Allardyce at Crystal Palace and Paul Clement at Swansea who both arrived in the middle of the season to rescue their clubs from possible relegation. Our pick is the obvious one. Antonio Conte won the Premier League in his first season in England which is is an amazing achievement. At the beginning of the season, everybody was talking about Mourinho at Manchester Utd, Guardiola at Manchester City and Klopp at Liverpool. Not many people were talking about the Italian. At the end of the season, everybody is talking about him and he's already a hero at Stamford Bridge.

I would choose Spurs- H.Loris as goalkeeper/Liverpool- Van Dijk as defender/Chelsea- N.Konte as midfielder/Liverpool -M.Salah as striker.
Except the cases which is needed, often rotate of squad aren't recommended for stability of the team.
In my opinion the manager rescued a team from relegation is more successful than one's who get title.

As I didn't followed the Premier League season that year, I must agree with your choices.
If it was nowadays, I would choose a 4-3-3 formation and my starting eleven woul be: Ederson (CIT) - Arnold (LIV), Thiago Silva (CHE), Ruben Dias (CIT) - Kanté (CHE), DeBruyne (CIT), Bruno Fernandes (MAN) - Sterling (CIT), Aubameyang (ARS), Kane (TOT).

In the part of midfielders is short for me, the ausence of Kevin De Bruyne, 'The Prince of Manchester', really hurts! He do more assists than anyplayer in that season.

I think every player that was mentioned deserves to be in the team, they did great, so your choices are OK for me. Courtois was very good in the goal, he helped Chelsea a lot, as well as its defenders; the three mentioned here maintained the area mostly free of goal options. All the midfielders did a great job, but Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne was the best for me. And Harry Kane deserves this nomination and award because of his goals for the Spurs.

In my point of view Coutinho was not as good as Pogba who is the best in playing up the three center- backs defence as midfielder.
I would be not alone to say that Son was the best striker on the end of the season.
Bellerin after his outstanding final FA Cup deserves a role to play as offensive backward in the best Premier League team.

There is no doubt that the players selected were the best this season and I think they are all rational selections as a starting XI exept in the defence, I will go with Bailly instead of Luiz
But how about this reserve team?
Pickford in goal.
A back three of Bailly, Walker and Alonso.
In midfied Mane, Ale, Erikson, Ramsey and De Bruyne.
A front line of Zalatan and Costa.
I think this team with Klopp will beat the above one despite having no midfield anchor (lots of creative midfielders!)
