Champions of England - Week 2

Welcome to week two of our first Premier Skills English Course!

This course lasts 4 weeks and will take you through different materials on the Premier Skills English website. Each week, we will publish a series of lessons, discussions and an end of week quiz.

In week one we looked at the background and history of the Leicester City Football Club and focussed on some vocabulary and narrative tenses. This week we are going to learn more about some of Leicester City's star players and how the club is becoming more and more popular around the world.

Stage 1: The first stage in the course is the Football Vocabulary: Players page. This vocabulary will be very useful throughout the course. Do you know the difference between a full-back and a winger?

Stage 2: The second stage is the Riyad Mahrez: Players of the Season Article. Here, you will read all about one of Leicester’s star players and learn more about his story and where he comes from.

Stage 3: Discussion -  Player Positions. Is Riyad Mahrez’s best position striker or winger? What other player positions do you know? What positions are most important on the pitch? Where does your favourite player play? 

Stage 4: The third stage is the Premier Skills English Podcast. In this week’s podcast, we talk about some Leicester players and where they come from.

Stage 5: From Ghana to Thailand, Algeria to Denmark and from Japan to Italy, Leicester City have new fans from around the world. In this stage, you are going to read about some of Leicester City’s staff and players and how their home country reacted to Leicester becoming Premier League Champions.

Stage 6: In this stage, we are going to look at language used to compare and contrast so you can talk about a football club’s popularity and how good players are.

Stage 7: Discussion - Leicester City in your Country. Did people in your country know about Leicester City before this season? Which Premier League club is the most popular in your country? Which Premier League club do you support and why?

Stage 8: The eighth stage of week one is the Player Interview: Who is your hero? Leicester’s players have become heroes to millions of fans around the world. In this video, Premier League players talk about their heroes on and off the pitch!
