Hi,
what is the difference between coin-toss and toss-up?

Thanks for your question, cmman.
On one level there is no difference between the two words. They both describe the action of tossing (throwing upwards) a coin to decide something e.g. which side of the pitch a penalty shoot-out will be played.
However, toss-up is more interesting because it can also be used to describe a situation where two or more thing s are equally possible e.g. I think the winner of the FA Cup this season is a toss up between Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester Utd and Tottenham. This means that I think these teams have an equal chance of winning.
Hope that helps and you enjoy our website!
