Introduction to week 2 of the World Cup Community Programme

Welcome to week 2

Wow! What a week! Some great games and great goals. What was your favourite? Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick against Spain, Harry Kane's hat-trick against Panama or maybe Toni Kroos' injury-time goal against Sweden? Which team has been the best? Mexico and Russia have made great starts and Colombia had a great result against Poland. The best thing? There are still three weeks to go! 

This is the second week in a four-week programme designed around the World Cup and English. Each week, we have lessons for you to complete that will teach you about the countries that are competing, the language you need when watching the match and special grammar and vocabulary related to the World Cup.

In week 2, the first lesson is the World Cup WebQuest. Each week, we’re taking eight countries and you have to answer some tough questions based on the information in our country profiles. This week you'll be travelling to Saudi Arabia, Peru, Morocco, Sweden, Tunisia, Switzerland, Senegal, and Nigeria but not necessarily in that order.

We have two football shout-out lessons. The topics are the opposition and instructions we shout at players. Following this, we have this week's podcast. The topic this week is vocabulary and extreme adjectives. We finish the week with a quiz for you to show that you have understood all the language that we look at this week.
