Authors of the various chapters discuss issues including values and beliefs enshrined in English; power relationships and the use of English; stereotyping and representations in textbooks; teaching techniques; cross-cultural behaviour and students’ attitudes in the classroom; beliefs about education, and what comprises ‘knowledge’ and ‘culture’ – as well as views on ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture; deculturation, acculturation and bilingualism.
