1st University English Teacher Training Symposium

March 28 2012 – Santiago, Chile
Experts from British Council Colombia, UK and Chile gave presentations and chaired discussions with coordinators from Chilean universities on the issues of initial university teacher training and what profile student teachers should have upon graduation. This will be captured in a report to the Ministry of Education.

Who needs English? The future of Foreign Language Teaching in Venezuela

March 14-16  2012 - Caracas, Venezuela
In partnership with Libertador Experimental Pedagogical University (UPEL),  the British Council in  Venezuela organised a policy forum to discuss the proposed reforms in foreign language teaching in Venezuela and other countries.  International guest speakers included Chris Kennedy and Janet Enever (UK), Isora Enriquez (Cuba) and Anne Marie Truscott de Mejia (Colombia).

English Language, Mother-Tongue Education and Language Policy and Planning

March 4-7 2012 – Juba, South Sudan

Around 110 delegates from South Sudan and Africa attended this event to discuss language-in-education policy in Africa and to advise the government of the new South Sudan state on the best approach in a post-conflict and resource-poor context.
