Alison works closely with Ministries of Education to help teachers develop their skills and competences and has recently been involved in a 'think tank for CPD' in India, which is the subject of one of the chapters in the British Council's 'Innovations in the continuing professional development of English language teachers' publication.

In the interview, Alison gives clear examples of the complexities of running large-scale CPD programmes and mentions some of the main challenges involved. She also describes many of the critical features of an effective and successful CPD programme. She emphasises that CPD is not just about training, but mentions many other important ways to develop professionally. Finally, she describes some of the factors that might be a barrier to a teacher's development and how important it is to support teachers, through regular contact and reinforcement.
