The British Council celebrates Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary year in 2016 with an event which marks the first performance of Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night: Or What You Will, broadcast live from Middle Temple Hall in London, where the play was first performed on 2 February 1602.
We are delighted to welcome Professor David Crystal, the UK’s most prominent linguist, to whisk us through four Bardic centuries, showing us the language of Shakespeare is still alive and well in our present-day mouths, ears, eyes, and hearts.
With excerpts from Twelfth Night, this performance lecture will feature guest actors and musicians from Ben Crystal's Passion in Practice Shakespeare Ensemble.
English language teaching professionals and members of the public are warmly invited to join the celebration broadcast live online from London, to explore how Shakespeare’s creativity in English is still spoken, written, read and heard around the world in 2016. The evening event will also include a networking reception on a Twelfth Night theme, for those attending in London.
When: Tuesday, 2 February 2016 from 18:00 to 21:00 (GMT)
Where: Middle Temple Hall - Middle Temple Lane London, England EC4Y 9AT GB
