The book ‘Language and Social Cohesion in the Developing World’ brings together fifteen of the most important papers presented at the 9th International Conference on Language and Development held in Colombo in 2011.
It is published jointly by the British Council and GIZ Sri Lanka and edited by Hywel Coleman. The book looks at the role of language in social cohesion in many parts of the world, including India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania and Timor Leste, while six chapters deal with the specific case of Sri Lanka.
