Hi there. I’m John Dykes. Welcome to the Premier League’s video guide to Manchester United Football Club. Here we’ll take you behind the scenes at Old Trafford, we’ll give you an insight into the match day experience and also suggest one or two other things to do and see in and around the club.

Manchester United is more than just a football club. It’s a footballing phenomenon. From its humble beginnings as Newton Heath in 1878, Manchester United has grown to become arguably one of the biggest football clubs of all time with a profile that’s recognised all around the world.

Old Trafford has been home to United since 1910. The theatre of dreams is the largest domestic ground in England. Offering a capacity crowd of over 75,000. Sitting in the Trafford borough of the city, the theatre of dreams offers easy access to all the major sights Manchester has to offer.

Only at the Manchester United Museum and tour can you experience United’s story in all its full glory. This award winning experience offers fans an all access visit through the eyes of Manchester United greats and provides you with superb insights into 130 years of United heritage.

No tour would be complete without a visit to the Manchester United club shop. Here you’ll quickly discover, that when it comes to merchandise, no one does it better than United.

As befits a squad full of world-class footballers, United offers their stars one of the finest training complexes in the world. The Trafford Training Centre or simply Carrington as its come to be known, offers all the state-of-the-art facilities needed in the schooling and rehabilitation of the modern day football team.

The Red Devils are the most successful club in the history of English football. Over the years, they have claimed a record 19 league titles, fifteen domestic cups, three European cups and have even been crowned club world champions twice. With United claiming their twelfth Premier League title last season, this famous old club have proven yet again, they’re still the standard bearers of top-flight English football.

If you’d like to experience the thrill of the Barclays Premier league in person, then why not visit the ticket availability section of premierleague.com or visit the club’s website.

I think that Liverpool will win 5-0 during Sunday's game. Only joking, I think it will be a close game more like 3-2 to Liveprool.

I think it was very useful.
I've never been to Manchester, but once I have the opportunity I must visit Old Trafford.
The best thing would probably watching Marcus Rashford.

It's a good video, very complete about Manchester United Club characteristics like their past, their stadium and their titles. I will go someday and I'll take many pictures at stadium and the museum, maybe in a match with Chelsea. It's a big stadium surely going to pretty see their fans and all their feelings before the game.

Dear Jack,
I would like to ask you if... So, reading i.e. this sentence "you would have to slip rather different spanners into works to bounce people out" (a novel) I know that "to bounce out" could be a phrasal verb, but what about... "to slip... spanners into works"? Is it maybe an idiomatic expression? There's a site where one can find easily expressions like that?
Thank you very much,
Sergio
P.S. Poor MUN... I'm afraid MCI is going to win...

Hi Sergio

'To put a spanner into the works' is a fun idiomatic phrase. If you imagine a large machine with cogs and levers... and then you imagine what would happen if you dropped a large metal tool like a spanner into the machine... that would literally be putting a spanner into the works. So the idiomatic meaning = to introduce an element that stops the system working.

To bounce someone out, is far less common - it's a friendlier version of kick someone out, meaning remove someone from a place or position.

I'm afraid I don't know of a specific site for idioms, but if you type a phrase into google in quotation marks, and the word define, you usually get a decent result.

Yes - Poor MUN, but what a match! What a season! Fantastic for the Premier League. I already can't wait for next season.

Jack

Dear Jack,
as usual you're really kind, clear and exhaustive.
I've just followed your tip with this sentence I read on Newsweek:
"Then there is the 800-pound gorilla in the room..." and I got what
it means... Er, I suppose so!
Thanks a lot,
Sergio
P.S. I'm much curious to know what James hopes about
Chelsea-Bayern, considered if Chelsea wan, the Spurs would be out
from Champions League next year! (What a 2nd conditional!!!)

Well, I think as you have followed my predictions that I was totally and completely correct. I saw that final 5 minutes play out in my mind and predicted it IDIOM: I hit the nail on the head with that one. Its just that jack disagreed with my 'outrageous' prediction and so didnt put it on the site :)

As per your question:

Chelsea will lose, Spurs will go into the Champion's league and win the tournament next season, or , Chelse will win and we will be 'left for dust'. In reality even though the final is in Germany and Barern will have home advantage and home support I think that it will be a 'do or die' game for Chelsea and many of their ageing stars will see it as their last 'swansong' at Chelsea before moving on to 'greener pastures' and so I will have to go for a Chelsea win and see Spurs playing in the second tier of European footy again :(

But, football is football, if that wasn't the case it wouldnt be the game that it is!!!

good luck with understanding the meaning of the idioms ive included and lets see how the final turns out, 3 days to go!!!
